Pregnant!

Dave and I have always known we wanted kids. I think we might have talked about it as early as on one of our first dates when we were 18. So fast forward 8 years, now we’ve been married for just over a year, and the questions were asking are, “is now the right time? What about next month? Or next year? Do we have enought money? Is there anything we wanted to get done before taking this colossal life altering step? Our insurance doesnt’ include maternity!”

We decided it would always be a nerve wracking decision and there was no time like the present, so we set up our insurance to include maternity coverage starting November 1 and got to work.

On November 20th I awoke from a particularly vivid dream that I was taking the pregnancy test that was in my bedside table. I wanted to wait as long as possible to ensure accurate results, but the box said that at this day of my cycle it had an 83% chance of detecting a pregnancy. (For those who don’t know, the test detects a certain hormone in the body which increases in level as the pregnancy proceeds. It’s not uncommon to get a negative from the test even if you are pregnant if the levels aren’t high enough yet, but if you get a positive it’s almost always correct.) I figured those chances were good enough and I just couldn’t wait any longer. I didn’t wake Dave, partly because I was afraid it would be negative and therefore anticlimactic, and partly because I knew he would tell me to wait another day. He’s far more patient than I am. :)

But when those two pink lines showed up clear as a bell I ran into the room, shook him, and said, “look!” shoving the stick in his face. He seemed to register what was going on remarkably quickly considering he’d been sound asleep moments earlier.

So now we will have a Baby Huff! Dave and I are really very excited. We expect the arrival in late July/early August and I have my first doctor’s appointment on Dec. 20th. We won’t be spreading the word until after Christmas, so as you are reading this I’ve already been and you can probably find out right now what happened! Ha!
