If I Ever Become a Seamstress, I Better Get Paid By the Hour.

As Dave mentioned today was our 2 year anniversary! I can’t believe how fast these two years have gone by, and I couldn’t be happier with my wonderful husband!

I think it’s fun to follow the “traditional” gift guidelines for anniversaries so I had to come up with something cotton for Dave. For Christmas a few years ago my mom got me a sewing machine. I have very little sewing expertise, but I figured it would be good to have the means to stitch a seam up if need be. When I was a kid my mom used to sew a fair amount for us, specifically Halloween costumes:

The first picture is of me as Rainbow Brite when I was about 5. The second one was taken in ‘05, but my mom actually made that costume for me in 8th grade. Dave’s costume was my first attempt at following a pattern, and caused far more grief than the pajama pants, so maybe I’m improving!

She would buy the pattern about a month ahead of time and whip that costume right up! I figured I could do the same and so when I got the sewing machine I promised Dave I would make him a pair of pajamas. I thought this would be a good time to make good on my promise and I could give them to him as a cotton anniversary gift. So I bought myself a pattern and got started. After about 8 hours of work I had finished about 75% of a pair of pants that would fit some sort of circus freak whose crotch went halfway down his calves. I stared at my crazy creation for about a half hour, finally figured out where I’d gone wrong, and proceeded to pull out just about all of the stitches. Another 8-10 hours later, poof! Pants! I also made some matching pants for the baby:

I do have the pattern for the matching shirt, but seeing as that involves complicated things like buttons and a pocket, I don’t know if that’s ever going to happen.
